PA CARES (Creating an Atmosphere of Respect and Environment for Success), provides support, resources and materials to 118 school districts across the communities served by Highmark.
Additionally, PA CARES, a program of the Center for Safe Schools, supports bullying prevention through professional development for existing Olweus trainers and provides for new trainers.
The Highmark Foundation, through the PA CARES effort (www.safeschools.info), aims to support efforts under way to establish the Olweus Bullying Prevention Program (OBPP) in Pennsylvania's schools. Through Highmark Healthy High 5 funding, PA CARES will work with the Olweus program to plan and present educational sessions across the state. These sessions are designed to increase the skill level of those involved in bullying prevention initiatives within the school setting.
Relying upon established partnerships and collaborative relationships with leading experts and organizations, PA CARES will work to enhance support of bullying prevention initiatives in Pennsylvania schools, strengthening opportunities for the success of those schools and program trainers now engaged in the bullying prevention effort.
