Highmark Healthy High 5 launches new website to address children’s health issues

www.highmarkhealthyhigh5.org recognized as a leader in online health promotion content

In an era where the Internet has become society’s primary gateway to knowledge, it is critical that websites allow consumers to access quality, concise and accurate information in a fast, easy and efficient manner. Highmark Healthy High 5, a $100 million children’s health promotion initiative of the Highmark Foundation, has revamped its website, www.highmarkhealthyhigh5.org, to better engage parents, educators and nonprofit organization leaders in learning about today’s most pressing children’s health issues and promoting children’s health.

“Highmark Healthy High 5’s website is our leading resource to educate the community on how to help children develop healthy habits and lead healthier lifestyles,” said Yvonne Cook, president of the Highmark Foundation. “Whether it is learning more about how to receive grants, seeking resources about the health issues that affect our children or finding a program that’s available for their school, our goal is to help individuals to learn how Highmark Healthy High 5 can best meet their needs.”

The Highmark Healthy High 5 website has a user-friendly navigation that guides visitors through more than 100 pages of health tips, details on community programs and links to national, statewide and local resources associated with Highmark Healthy High 5’s areas of focus: nutrition, physical activity, grieving, self-esteem and bullying prevention. It also has links to the latest news on children’s health issues, Highmark Health High 5’s signature partner programs and upcoming events.

The most robust portion of the website is dedicated to Highmark Healthy High 5’s bullying prevention efforts. In the section, “Take the time. Talk to your kids. Tackle bullying,” tips for parents, posters for teachers and links to bullying prevention resources are offered.

Moreover, with one easy click from the home page, parents, teachers and nonprofit organization leaders can learn about the information on the site that is relevant to their needs.

Websites receive World Wide Web Health Awards

The new website builds on the success of its predecessor. In December, the previous version of www.highmarkhealthyhigh5.org was recognized with a World Wide Web Health Award in the Health Promotion/Disease and Injury Prevention Information classification for its content addressing critical children’s health issues. The World Wide Web Health Awards, given twice a year, acknowledge the best health-related websites for consumers and professionals and provide a “seal of quality” for electronic health information.

In addition to www.highmarkhealthyhigh5.org, three of Highmark Healthy High 5 partners’ websites were also recognized with World Wide Web Health Awards for their online efforts in health promotion. Two of the sites are developed and maintained by the Susan P. Byrnes Health Education Center:

The third site, Health eTools for Schools provides educators and administrators with access to research-based, evidence-driven curriculum for better nutrition and physical activity planning at www.healthetoolsforschools.org.
