About
President's Letter
Dear Friends,
For more than five years, the Highmark Foundation has supported critical initiatives and programs aligned with our mission to improve the health, well-being and quality of life of individuals who reside in the Pennsylvania 49-county region served by Highmark. To better achieve our mission we added a new focus area; children's health promotion.
Promoting children's health makes good business sense, because the health habits children develop often stay with them as they grow older. Through a $100 million grant from Highmark Inc., the Highmark Foundation has launched Highmark Healthy High 5, a 5-year program to improve the health and well-being of our kids and create a brighter future for us all.
The Foundation will award grants to nonprofit organizations that address children's health promotion, specifically within the key areas of nutrition, physical activity, grieving, self-esteem and bullying.
By focusing our support in these critical areas, we hope to create a world where healthy habits start young
and never grow old a world where kids are on the move, where there's no room for junk food fanatics, or bullies of any size, where confidence and self-respect abound and grieving children get help in coping with the death of a loved one.
Whatever role you play in the development of our region's children, you'll find something on this Web site to help you participate in having a greater hand in raising healthier, happier kids, the effort to improve children's health.
Sincerely,
Kenneth R. Melani, M.D.
